Phase-Out Stage: The Proper Way of Stopping the Master Cleanse

This is a continuation of our Master cleanse series article published earlier

Ending the Master Cleanse diet can be considered as the most critical phase of the diet especially when it is done wrong. Its danger level will depend on how long you did the diet. You don’t have to be that cautious if you only did the diet for three days as compared those who did the diet for 10 or more days. If not followed correctly, incorrect stopping of the diet may lead to severe digestive problems.

Importance of Phase-Out

This step is crucial to the general well-being of people who tried the Master Cleanse. You can face different adverse effects if not done properly. It is very likely that you will become nauseated if you start eating regular food right after the Lemonade diet. You could suffer from constipation if you did not correctly follow the Phase-Out phase.

However, you should not let these adverse effects intimidate you. As long as you follow the correct way of the Phase-Out Phase, you will have nothing to worry about. If you are still not confident in the process, you can always consult a doctor to help you through this process.

An essential factor to remember in this Master Cleanse phase is to drink plenty of water, particularly if you are doing fruit and vegetable juicing. If you do not include the broth in this stage and focus mainly on juices, you have to be sure to consume a lot of water. Insufficient water consumption may lead to constipation due to the high fiber content of fruits and vegetables.

Phase-Out Stage

The Phase-out stage is the same as the Phase-in but in reverse. You have completed the ten or more days of cleansing at this point. You have two options on how you will stop the Lemonade diet:

  • Vegetarian Diet or
  • Standard Diet

Here is the recommended procedure on how to slowly re-introduce food in your digestive system after its break for ten or more days.

Stanley Burrough’s Phase-Out regimen recommendation:

Day 1: Consume only Orange Juice

The orange juice helps ready your digestive system for natural solid food and to function properly. You should drink some freshly squeezed organic OJ in eight-ounce glasses. You should drink as much as you need. It is advised to drink it gradually. You can squeeze orange juice using manual or electrical juicer enough to make two liters of OJ. Mix the freshly squeezed OJ with water. Since this juice has not enough calories that your body needs on a daily basis, you can include two tablespoons of maple syrup in the two liters of OJ. Some dieters dilute the OJ with water to make the transition easier for them. Drink orange juice only throughout the day.

If you experienced difficulty in digesting before and during this phase, you could drink every day, distilled water together with the orange juice.

Day 2: Orange Juice and Vegetable Soup

You should drink a couple of eight-ounce glasses of freshly squeezed organic OJ all throughout the day. You can take it with water as you require. You can cook up an organic vegetable soup (DON’T use canned soup!) in the afternoon for your dinner meal. You should eat mostly broth although you can also eat some of the vegetables in the soup. You can eat the soup together with a small piece of organic whole grain rye wafers. However, you are forbidden from eating crackers or bread.

Leftover soup can be stored in the fridge for future use.

Here is a good recipe on how to make the Vegetable Soup suited for this Phase:

  • 1 Carrot, sliced
  • 3 Tomatoes seeded and diced
  • 1 Celery stalk, sliced
  • 1 cup sliced Broccoli florets
  • Bunch of green leafy vegetables including spinach
  • 1 Green pepper diced
  • 1 Onion diced
  • 1 Potato, medium, half-inch cubes
  • 1 Zucchini, sliced
  • 1 cup sliced Cauliflower florets
  • Half cup each of the following beans: kidney beans, lentils, and others
  • Half cup of Brown Rice
  • One tsp. Dry Oregano
  • 1/8 tsp. Cayenne pepper
  • One tsp. Cumin powder
  • One tsp. Curry powder
  • Salt to taste (use tiny amount of salt if possible)
  • Other desired vegetables
  • Organic Vegetable broth or cube

How to cook:

Put all the ingredients in a large cooking pot. Add sufficient amount of water just enough that the rice and vegetables are immersed in it. Simmer for about 20-30 minutes. Make sure that the rice and vegetables are cooked thoroughly. You can add water as needed. Do not overcook as much as possible so you can have all the benefits of the veggie ingredients in this recipe.

Day 3: Soup, Orange Juice, Salad, Vegetables, and Fruit

You should drink freshly-squeezed OJ in the morning. You can eat the leftover organic veggie soup you made the day before as lunch. You can eat whatever veggies, fruit, or salad you like at dinner. Refrain from eating fish, meat, eggs, pastries, bread, caffeinated coffee or tea, sugar, milk, and alcohol.

Day 4: Resume to your Regular Healthy Diet

You can continue with your regular eating. If ever you experience digestive problems or gas, you can go back to consuming the lemonade drink for several more days until you can already tolerate a more solid food.

Diet after the Master Cleansing

It is important to stick to eating wisely to be able to sustain the weight you lost during the cleansing. It may sound easy, but many dieters relapse and go back to their unhealthy lifestyle of eating junk and processed food especially when faced with daily emotional stress. If you are unable to sustain eating healthy, you may just gain all the weight you lost and maybe more pounds!

After cleansing, most people are encouraged to choose a healthier way of eating. It is common for them to start craving for healthier cravings and start to pursue an entirely different diet from when they started as listed below:

  • Vegetarian Diet
  • Raw Food Diet
  • Vegan Diet

Probiotics after Master Cleansing Diet

It is highly advised that you begin taking probiotics once you are done the cleansing. It is essential to replace the good bacteria that have been flushed out of your body along with the toxins while in the lemonade diet process. Probiotics are good bacteria which offer many health values and are important to how our body functions, including a healthy digestive system.
